The Food and Drug Administration today ordered manufacturers of erectile dysfunction drugs to voluntarily recall four erectile dysfunction drugs.
In a three-part warning letter sent to all drugmakers, the FDA said it was “compelling” the recall of all of the erectile dysfunction drugs sold by the three manufacturers. The FDA said the FDA is also reviewing whether the drugs have been properly tested for safety and effectiveness.
The FDA said the drugs had been taken in doses ranging from 10 milligrams to 200 milligrams. It has recommended that manufacturers use the lowest dose available to ensure the drug is safe and effective. All the products are manufactured in China, the FDA said. All of the drugs are sold by Cipla Inc., which has 60 manufacturing sites in 120 states and the District of Columbia.
The FDA said the recall also includes six erectile dysfunction drugs sold in Canada, two medications sold in the United States, and a drug sold in the United Kingdom, including Viagra.
The FDA also issued an advisory about the drugs’ safety and effectiveness, but it did not say whether the drugs have been approved by the FDA.
